Celebrate one of Britain’s most iconic steam locomotives with the RetroClassic™ SR Merchant Navy Class 35028 “Clan Line” T-Shirt. This detailed design showcases the legendary 35028 Clan Line, a powerful express steam locomotive built at Eastleigh Works in 1948.
After entering service, Clan Line quickly became a mainstay of Southern Region express routes, operating from Dover and later Stewarts Lane in London, hauling prestigious services to the Channel ports. It regularly powered famous trains such as the Golden Arrow and the Night Ferry, becoming synonymous with luxury and long-distance steam travel.
Following its rebuild in 1959, Clan Line continued its impressive career from Nine Elms, working top-link services including the Bournemouth Belle and the Atlantic Coast Express. In 1961, it achieved an unofficial recorded speed of 104 mph, highlighting its exceptional performance.
Its British Railways service came to a memorable close on 2 July 1967, when Clan Line hauled a farewell special from London Waterloo to Bournemouth, marking the end of an era for Southern steam.
