BABs Land Speed Record

Step into the golden age of speed with our latest collaboration, celebrating one of the most iconic machines in motorsport history — BABs.

As part of our ongoing RetroClassic Land Speed Record Collection, this release honours the extraordinary story of the car built and driven by John Parry-Thomas – a true pioneer of engineering and bravery.

Originally known as Chitty 4, one of Count Louis Zborowski’s legendary aero-engined creations, the car evolved into BABS – a machine that would redefine speed. Powered by a colossal 27-litre Liberty L-12 aero engine, delivering around 450 horsepower, BABS became one of the most powerful and distinctive land speed record cars of its era.

In 1926, Parry-Thomas drove BABS to a groundbreaking 171.02 mph at Pendine Sands, securing its place in motoring history. Though its story includes tragedy, its legacy is one of innovation, determination, and the relentless pursuit of speed.

A LEGACY REBORN
Decades later, BABS was painstakingly recovered and restored by Owen Wyn Owen, bringing the car back from its burial beneath the sands of Pendine. Today, it stands as a living symbol of engineering heritage and British motoring history, appearing at venues such as Brooklands Museum and the Museum of Land Speed.
